New Seasons

On Saturday, April 14th, the Hodge Podge Community Garden celebrated the opening of  its 2012 gardening season. Here’s a summary from one of the organizers, Cate de Vreede:

The garden opening day was a huge success. All 20 of the beds have been assigned to gardeners for the 2012 growing season. There’s a mix of returning gardeners and those who are new to the community garden. At this event we registered all gardeners, provided an orientation tour, and did a number of start-up maintenance tasks(turned soil, added new soil, attached the protective wire cages, finished the new compost bins, etc). The Hodge Podge Community Garden’s annual open house will take place on July 21st.

The Hodge Podge Community Garden is a Town of Bridgewater program, coordinated by the community group, the Bridgewater Community Garden Network, and helped by over a dozen businesses and organizations, including HNH. If you haven’t checked out the garden, stop by sometime. Located at the former Bridgewater Tourist Bureau site, it’s become a lovely gathering place. Even if you are not able to garden, you can have lunch at the shaded picnic table or let your kids log roll down the grassy hill. The Hodge Podge Community Garden is just one of many great community initiatives that are revitalizing Bridgewater.

Hey, I recognize this smiling Hodge Podger… Brian Braganza also came to HNH on April 13th for our 2012 Skills Assessment Day. Before we headed out to a clients’ site to learn the finer points of wheelbarrow etiquette and bed maintenance, Brian led us in fun and engaging exercises to illustrate the importance of coming together as a team. Team-building  has become more crucial than ever now that HNH has expanded to a staff of 15; Brian’s experience in community development and group facilitation helped us leap (yes, he had us leaping and bounding, literally) into our own 2012 season with enthusiasm and a shared vision. Thanks Brian!
