25 Years of Helping Nature Heal
Since 2001, Helping Nature Heal has worked with natural systems to restore damaged landscapes, strengthen ecosystems, and reconnect people with the land around them.
Today, we are an ecological restoration and environmental consulting company specializing in nature-based strategies, living shorelines, resilient landscapes, education, and community capacity building.
Our approach brings together ecosystem science, ecological restoration, horticulture, landscape design, permaculture, eco-forestry, hydrology, soil ecology, and more than two decades of hands-on field experience. Rather than imposing a solution on a landscape, we learn from the site—its water, soil, plants, roots, slopes, disturbances, and existing ecological relationships—and work with those processes to help the landscape become healthier and more resilient.
Our goal is not simply to create landscapes that look restored. We work to rebuild the ecological relationships that allow landscapes to function: roots holding soil, plants slowing and absorbing water, organic materials rebuilding soil, diverse plant communities creating habitat, and natural succession helping the system become increasingly self-sustaining.
After 25 years of designing, building, planting, observing, and monitoring ecological landscapes, Helping Nature Heal is increasingly focused on consulting, education, mentorship, and capacity building. We work with landowners, communities, municipalities, organizations, contractors, and environmental professionals to develop practical restoration strategies and share the knowledge needed to carry that work forward.
Through programs such as Shore Up and Rooted Learning™, along with workshops, courses, field training, presentations, and professional consulting, we are helping more people understand how landscapes function and how they can become active participants in restoring them.
