Can you imagine a more exciting time than March?
Spring is quite literally around the corner! Students will have a break from studies, everyone will celebrate the Irish, and planting can soon begin. Garden.org has a wonderful guide which describes sharing when to start your seeds and bulbs. Click here to check it out. We love building our raised garden beds and berms. They act like a cradle for immature plants to find safety and to harden.

Freshness runs alongside spring; with the 17th Annual Seedy Saturday now passed, we can focus on the treasures acquired from the event and soon begin germination. Seedy Saturday began when Rosmarie Lohnes came to town. She wanted her community to enjoy the fun and security this event brings.
The germination of love and support of the community she grounded her roots in, grew an entire network of successful outcomes. Season after season, new and old staff are attached to the event due to the satisfaction we get from doing good for others. Germinating new skills, new understandings, and living earnestly.

Over 20 years in business, some locals may have missed our Bridgewater office Nature Store.
Our historic building is tucked away on the LaHave River and faces the same challenges as many of our clients: property on the waters’ edge , shoreline erosion, and the endless fear of the next big storm. The stone basement is a cold heart for such a loving place to be. The stock yard will soon be full of plants hardening off. Hoop houses will be set up and the magic of defrost will begin. As the snow melts away, the garden that surrounds the HNH Inc. office will show the natural glory hidden beneath. Years of wise procurement sets a path of wonder around the building. Humble in size and used mainly for functionality and propagation. We dream of germination and propagation to distract ourselves from harsh realities; both require nature’s hard work which is worth every second.
Growing ecosystems and spreading restorative knowledge are just some of the things that make Rosmarie Lohnes our spotlight for March. Even in “off season” while she could be dreaming on the beach, cold drink in hand, with sun and sand. Mrs. Lohnes stumbles upon gaps in the side walk and fills them with wildflower seeds.
Rosmarie brings her hard working, community manifesting, spreading prosperity attitude into every aspect of her life. She wants good for others and lends a helping hand where she can. Helping Nature Heal Inc. not only works with communities on their ecological journey to improvement, it also works to connect people to naturalist knowledge.
Healing takes many different forms: when we heal our community, we are healing ourselves. Rosmarie and her company have been able to accomplish positive contributions in so many lives.
HNH staff have decided to write this months’ blog highlighting some of the heart-warming things HNH has propagated over the years!
We are currently the proud sponsors of:
“Hodge Podge” Community Gardens – Public access to fresh edibles
Annual “Seedy Saturday” Buy, sell, and trade – Food Drive, Soup Kitchen, and public access to local seeds
The Bridgewater Men’s Baseball Team
3 Different Soccer leagues

And an internet café in Jamaica.

Just to start the list!
Being a member of the HNH community, means you support our work. We have so much joy connecting with our people. If you are reading this, you are our people. Grateful is putting it lightly, when it comes to being able to do good in this world.
The bees are busy going about their day in the background, bringing us flowers each season. Our people want to share that good feeling: whether it is through plant swaps, sustainable resource sourcing, or just sharing some good information.
Building each other up starts with a good foundation. Like when Rosmarie and HNH Inc staff built an internet café brick by brick, from the ground up in Jamaica. We build things all the time! How hard could it be?
Connecting a community to the internet by providing a power source, were just some of the challenges we faced.
The amount of Information we can share through this magic little screen you’re looking at right now, is monumental. We have access to entire volumes and collections of scientific papers, academic lectures, and “how to” videos. Should we be so lucky to live in 2023. A futuristic wonderland.
This is not the case for all, however. Canada is a very “lucky” country to live and thrive in. Our basic standards of living normally include a television somewhere in the house, a smart phone or tablet in your pocket and jobs in any industry your heart could yearn to work. Our harsh winters make our homelessness seem almost invisible. Packed shelters and tent cities tell the full story of how fortunate we are at this moment. As tough as harsh realities are, we have the tools and systems set in place to do good by our people. Let us share these systems!
As we get older, being kind and generous sometimes get pushed to the side as we survive and thrive. This March lets all pay it forward! Learn more click here
